So, Etta James, you know, the lady with the voice that could melt steel, she decided one day to take on the Eagles’ “Take It to the Limit.” Now, this wasn’t your typical move for her, but she did it back in ’78.

She totally turned it into a soul jam. Gone was the country rock vibe, and in its place was this deep, soulful groove with horns and a beat that just makes you feel all the feels. It’s not one of her chart-toppers, but man, if you want to hear someone really pour their heart out, Etta’s version is where it’s at. It’s like she’s telling you a story, not just singing a song.
